So instead of giving in to despair I chose active melancholy, in so far as I was capable of activity, in other words I chose the kind of melancholy that hopes, and that strikes and that seeks, in preference to the melancholy that despairs numbly and in distress.

Trust me, Arlene… in my past, I have seen parents strap explosive to their children, riots caused because of someone’s sexual orientation… and I’ve been… held captive by Hamas terrorists for ninety days… so do not tell me that vampires are bad or evil.. I’ve seen evil. I have seen it, more than I care to remember… they are not evil… at least not the general sum. It is no better, what you are doing, than what many Americans do to Muslims as a whole due to the actions of Islamic Extremists. What I am trying to say, is it should not matter what one’s race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or even subspecies is. None of that should matter. It’s what innately there, deep within us, that should be taken into account, and loved. Not hated.

~Ziva David

A small little rant I imagine Ziva going on after overhearing Arlene called vampires ‘bad’ or ‘evil’.

No matter how much you hate the world, no matter how much you hate yourself, there are answers that are better than death. Believe me. There are people that love you. I love you, for crying out loud. There are people who would be a wreck if you were gone. There is a reason we are all on this Earth, I promise you, even if you don’t see it now. And if you’re feeling alone, know that the world can be a lonely place but it would be lonelier without you in it.
